An exhibition of Urban Art from Congo developed around a series of about fifty paintings by the influential artist Tshibumba Kanda-Matulu, "A Congo Chronicle" provides a unique encounter with the Independence movement that took hold in urban cafés of this central African Nation. Urban art, or popular painting, a genre traceable to the 1920s, chronicles contemporary social and political realities. The book presents works that depict the dramatic political career of Patrice Lumumba, the father of Congo independence who became the nation's prime minister in 1960, but was soon after killed under mysterious circumstances.

Cette exposition d'art urbain du Congo s'articule autour d'une cinquantaine d'oeuvres de l'artiste Tshibumba Kanda-Matulu et propose un horizon de cette peinture populaire, présente au Congo depuis les années 1920. En se focalisant sur des oeuvres représentant la carrière de Patrice Lumumba, Premier ministre en 1960, figure de l'indépendance du Congo et mystérieusement assassiné, l'exposition nous montre comment cet art populaire se place en témoin de l'Histoire.
