The Israel Museum's Judaica holdings, among the most important in the world, have been celebrated in a number of publications focusing on different aspects of the collection.
Offerings from Jerusalem substantially broadens the historical picture, examining popular manuscripts from the late medieval period on and objects of different kinds from the 18th to the early 20th century. These works are illustrated with depictions of holy places such as Temple Mount and the tombs of kings, prophets, and sages. What unites them is the purpose they frequently served : inspiring Jews in the Diaspora to provide financial support for the community in the Land of Israel. Very often an object was dedicated with the Hebrew words minhah shelulah ("an offering sent..."), indicating that it would be given to an important donor as an expression of gratitude.
