In this book, the major Sierra Leone weaving tradtions are examined on the basis of both field research and the sudy of material preserved in Museum aoutside the country. The various loom types are investigated from a technical point of view, and the cloth produces is explored. A number of older textiles of great importance are illustrated and place in their historical and social contexts. Emphasis is placed not only on cotton but also no the widespread but generally overlooked craft in Sierra Leaone of raphia weaving.
